ABOUT SIX-WORD ANCESTRAL STORIES:
Did you know you can write a story with only six words? Get a taste of what it's like to venture through time and visit with your ancestors! See what stores are waiting to be told in this fun writing workshop. We will play with free-writing to generate ideas and tap into your ancestral stories, listen to a visualization and then dive in to create one or more 6-word Ancestral Stories! The workshop is great to everyone, no matter your experience with writing or level of knowledge about your ancestors.
ABOUT TANIO MCCALLUM:
Tanio M. McCallum lives in Nyack, New York and holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Sarah Lawrence College. She currently facilitates mixed genre writing workshops and is a writing coach who helps budding writers “Birth” their books. Through her business, Writes of Passage, Ms. McCallum runs transformational writing workshops and hosts award-winning authors, publishers, author branding specailists, and others to support, inform and inspire new writers. She is also an official thesis editor for Pratt Institute and teaches Literature and Writing Composition classes at Lehman College in the Bronx, NY. She has taught writing and book publishing workshops at WICE in Paris, at The Nyack Center, in an alternative high school, for prison inmates, and at The Nyack Library in New York and The American Library in Paris. Her experience in the Publishing Industry includes work as an assistant literary agent, a senior editor for an educational consulting and publishing company, a marketing and events manager for a small press, as well as a freelance writer, editor and desktop publisher.
She was shortlisted for a residency at Djerrasi and is a first-place winner of a New Millennium Writer’s contest. Ms. McCallum’s most recent publication as a contributing author is the Best-Seller The Ancestor’s Within: Recognize and Embrace the Gifts of Your Origins, released June, 2022. Her poetry is featured in a Zine called “As We Turn” to be released July 2022.
